How to plan a trip to Gavi Wildlife Sanctuary in Kerala, India

Gavi Forest is located in Pathanamthitta district, a one-hour drive from Thekkady. Gavi Eco-tourism activities were created in 1970 to protect 700 Tamil refugees from Sri Lanka, a perfect example of responsible tourism. More than 150 families are still living in Gavi, and Kerala Forest Development Corporation has started different tourism activities like trekking, boating, forest stays, and safari to provide jobs for the refugees.

How to Go to Gavi?

There is a forest road through Seethathode near Erumeli to Gavi, which is very scenic and through deep forest. The forest department will allow three vehicles a day to travel this way. A prior pass is required at the check post, which can be booked online. It is also possible to visit Gavi via Vandiperiyar.

It will take one hour to drive from Thekkady. There is a KFDC office at Kumily where travellers can book day packages or rooms and get a pass to enter Gavi.

Forest Stays in Gavi
